Xasthur is a cult project from California, founded by multi-instrumentalist Malefic (Scott Conner), which became a true pillar of the DSBM (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal) genre. Xasthur's music is a painful journey through layers of raw lo-fi production, monotonous guitar lines, and piercing vocals that resemble agony more than singing. Unlike traditional black metal, Xasthur focuses not on aggression, but on total immersion in isolation, depression, and nihilism. Later, the project transformed into acoustic neofolk ("doomgrass"), yet it retained its signature atmosphere of impenetrable darkness, making every release a unique experience for connoisseurs of extreme art.
