Vital Remains is a cult American death metal band formed in 1988 in Providence, Rhode Island, by guitarist Tony Lazaro. The outfit stands as one of the most prominent forces in the US satanic death metal scene. Their sonic signature is characterized by a unique fusion of hyper-speed blast beats, heavy death metal riffing, and prominent neoclassical guitar solos and melodic acoustic interludes. The band's lyrical and ideological concept is strictly focused on militant anti-Christianity, Satanism, occultism, and blasphemy, which was heavily emphasized by the powerful vocal delivery of Glenn Benton (of Deicide), who fronted the project for a significant period.
