Time of Death is a Canadian solo project by Chris Balch from Sudbury, Ontario, founded in 1999 while the musician was still in high school. Balch initially recorded guitar parts and programmed drums, before beginning to play and record live drums himself in 2002. The project's music evolved from atmospheric death metal toward technical, progressive and experimental territory, incorporating elements of black metal, grindcore, mathcore and avant-garde music. In 2012, Chris Balch changed the project's name to Nostril Caverns, continuing it as the same solo project while performing all instruments and vocals himself.
