Necromantia is a band from Athens, founded in 1989 by drummer George “The Magus” Zaharopoulos and bassist Baron Blood. Their style is black metal, but with a unique twist: instead of guitars, they used two bass guitars, creating a distinctive sound. Their debut album Crossing the Fiery Path (1993) became a cornerstone of Greek black metal, followed by Scarlet Evil Witching Black (1995), which cemented their cult status. Later works such as The Sound of Lucifer Storming Heaven (2007) and To the Depths We Descend... (2021) showcased their dedication to extreme metal. Lyrical themes include occultism, demonology, and mythology. After Baron Blood’s death in 2019, the band disbanded, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the global black metal scene.
