Lunar Aurora was a German atmospheric black metal band from Rosenheim, Bavaria, formed in December 1994 by Benjamin “Aran” König and Andreas “Whyrhd” Bauer. Their music combines the cold, dark sound of black metal with mystical atmospheres, ambient elements, and experimental layers of sound. The band was known for its profound spiritual and mystical themes, exploring the soul, life and death, the moon, stars, and supernatural realms. Lunar Aurora released nine studio albums, including such acclaimed works as Weltengänger, Ars Moriendi, Elixir of Sorrow, Zyklus, Mond, and Andacht. After going on hiatus from 2006 to 2011, the band returned with Hoagascht in 2012, which became their final release. Lunar Aurora disbanded in 2012, leaving a significant mark on the history of German atmospheric black metal.
