Hypothermia is one of the most prominent and distinctive entities of the Swedish underground, masterminded by Kim Carlsson (ex-Lifelover) in 2001. Standing as a foundational pillar of depressive suicidal black metal (DSBM), the project quickly transcended the boundaries of the genre, evolving into a profound post-black and melancholic art-rock sound. Hypothermia’s music relies heavily on minimalism, elongated instrumental passages, and repetitive, hypnotic guitar riffs that forge a dense atmosphere of despair, isolation, and numbness. Shunning outward aggression in favor of raw emotional nakedness and agonizing vocals, the project pulls the listener into a deep trance.
