Gates of Ishtar is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Luleå, formed in 1992 (originally as Disrupt). They are considered one of the underrated classics of the Swedish melodic death metal scene, known for their dark, melancholic yet powerful sound — blending aggressive riffs, beautiful atmospheric melodies, and emotional depth. Their music carries a cold, sorrowful atmosphere filled with themes of depression, solitude, and inner struggles. Key releases include the seminal debut A Bloodred Path (1996), The Dawn of Flames (1997), and At Dusk and Forever (1998). After a long hiatus, the band returned in the 2020s and continues to deliver their signature melancholic melodeath.
