Destruction is a German thrash metal band formed in 1982 in Weil am Rhein. Originally formed under the name Knight of Demon, the band soon changed its name to Destruction. The outfit stands as an undisputed titan of extreme music and a foundational pillar of the "Big Teutonic Four" alongside Kreator, Sodom, and Tankard. The band's sonic signature is instantly recognizable: high-speed, razor-sharp Teutonic thrash driven by dissonant technical riffing, Schmier's iconic piercing shrieks, and aggressive rhythm sections that heavily influenced early black and death metal. Conceptually and lyrically, the project focuses on anti-religious themes, occultism, warfare, global chaos, political corruption, and societal destruction.
