Covenant is a Norwegian band from Hamar, formed in 1993. They played symphonic black metal, blending aggressive riffs with atmospheric keyboards and epic arrangements. Their debut album In Times Before the Light (1997) became a landmark in the genre. Due to a conflict with the Swedish electronic band of the same name, they changed their name to The Kovenant. Under this new name, they released Animatronic (1999) and SETI (2003), experimenting with industrial and electronic sounds. The band achieved cult status for merging black metal with futuristic aesthetics and bold experimentation.
