Countess is a Dutch band formed in 1992 in Leiden. They play black metal with influences from heavy metal, characterized by raw sound and dark atmosphere. Their debut album The Gospel of the Horned One (1993) was among the first black metal releases in the Netherlands. Notable works include Ad Maiorem Sathanae Gloriam (1995), The Book of the Heretic (1996), and Burning Scripture (2000). The band achieved cult status for its uncompromising style and dedication to the underground scene.
