Cianide is an American death / doom metal band formed in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois, by bassist/vocalist Mike Perun and guitarist Scott Suter. The outfit stands as one of the most unwavering and deeply revered cult acts of the US extreme metal underground, remaining fiercely dedicated to their sound for over three decades. The band's sonic signature is heavy, low-tuned old-school death-doom: crushing, agonizingly slow Hellhammer and Celtic Frost-inspired riffs interlock with mid-tempo death metal assaults, thick basslines, and deep guttural growls. Conceptually and lyrically, the band focuses on themes of death, warfare, apocalypse, occultism, and the dark reality of human existence.
