Influenced by bands such as Caladan Brood, Elderwind, Saor and Gallowbraid, Cân Bardd was founded in 2016 as a solo project by 18-year-old Malo Civelli from Switzerland with the aim of creating an outlet for his feelings and ideas that would be both heavy and aggressive, but also melodic and atmospheric. Later, Dylan Watson joined him as a durable drummer.

With their first two albums, Cân Bardd had already managed to win a lot of fans in the Atmospheric Black Metal community, and with "Devoured by the Oak" the band took it even higher.

The goal was to create a perfect combination of the strengths of the first two albums - the ambition, textures and atmosphere of the debut, as well as the composition and quality of the second album, which resulted in a more mature sound and a more intense experience for the listener.
