Bolt Thrower is a British death metal band formed in Coventry in 1986. Founders were Alan West (vocals) and Barry Thomson (guitar). Their early demos and debut album In Battle There Is No Law! (1988, Vinyl Solution) mixed grindcore and death metal. The band gained major recognition with albums Realm of Chaos (1989, Earache Records), War Master (1991), The IVth Crusade (1992), and …For Victory (1994). Their music was characterized by heavy riffs, guttural vocals, and war‑themed lyrics. Later releases included Mercenary (1998) and their final studio album Those Once Loyal (2005), which was highly acclaimed. Bolt Thrower remained stylistically consistent throughout their career. After drummer Martin “Kiddie” Kearns passed away in 2015, the band officially disbanded in 2016.
