Asphyxia (5) was a Belgian thrash metal band from Verviers, Liège, formed in 1987. The band was founded by guitarists Yves and Roland Cluckers, with vocalist Carlos Ramos and drummer Da Cardoen joining later. Asphyxia played classic thrash metal strongly influenced by the San Francisco Bay Area scene, with occasional similarities to Slayer. During their career, the band released three demos and one full-length album, Exit: Reality, issued by Rumble Records in 1991. In 1992, guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers joined the band and later became known for his work with Fear Factory and Vio-lence. Asphyxia left a notable mark on the Belgian underground thrash metal scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
