Aquilus is an Australian atmospheric black metal project founded in Melbourne around 2000 by musician Horace “Waldorf” Rosenqvist. The band’s style blends black metal blast beats and harsh vocals with orchestral arrangements, piano passages, and folk-inspired melodies. The debut EP Arbor was released in 2007, followed by the full-length Griseus (2011), which later gained recognition as one of the finest metal albums of the decade. After nearly a decade, Aquilus returned with Bellum I in 2021 and Bellum II in 2024. Initially a studio-only project, Aquilus began performing live in 2014 with additional musicians joining the lineup.
